Sam Seder Joins Ring of Fire Radio!

11:25 am
mornin gang!
11:31 am
G’morning, Jim
Almost didn’t make it. Happy to be here.
11:29 am
we have sound!
yay! theres always this essense of my early ham radio days in waiting for the show to start.
11:31 am
woot woot. we got intro music
11:32 am
enzyte radio.
11:31 am
here we go! happyness is here
11:35 am
i have been so busy this morning and time flew by so quick i forgot to go pee before the show so now i am stuck at my desk for the next 1 hr and a half with an uncomfortable feel in my bladder, and to make things worse, last night i went to watch the URINEtown musical…
11:37 am
at least its not raining outside. drip. drip. drip.
11:51 am
it actually is raining, dan, but thankfully i can’t hear it, on the 22nd floor of my skyscraper
11:56 am
don’t know how you would do it here, but our time warner cable has introduced a real neat feature (i think it depends on having a dvr as part of your plan) where if you are watching a show, you can hit the pause button, go run an errand, and come back and pick up where you left off. the best part is that if you do this and you come up to a commercial, you can fast forward over the commercial as long as doing so wouldn’t take you into the future.
12:10 pm
Ha! That reminds me of the VERY early days of Air America Radio, before they were making mp3 podcasts available (and even before Air America Place was doing so). I used to run my PC’s audio out over to my ReplayTV DVR to record all the programming, so I could listen to it “time-shifted.”
11:40 am
Ha! I had to Google it, but it sounds kewl. You like, or no?
11:42 am
it came thru town on the broadway across america tour a few years back. we left at intermission cause we just didn’t get it.
12:05 pm
sorry glory, are you talking about the musical? i’m at work listening to sam in fits and starts and it’s hard for me to concentrate on the blog right now…
yes, the Urinetown show was enjoyable, good music and the production reminded me of the bertold brecht plays, (Mackie Messer and such)
12:12 pm
Yeah. I think I might like. Have to check out the soundtrack.
11:43 am
If your pocketbook allows… I use an FM transmitter to broadcast my Internet-streamed audio (anything from the PC, actually) to the rest of my house — via my home stereo or clock radios.
I’ve been using the C Crane FM transmitter for years, with satisfactory results (ok for talk radio & news), but other options exist.
12:00 pm
Fishgrease (MajorityReport 1.0 fan and blog habitué)

Also, you can email the show at: MajorityReporters@gmail.com
12:30 pm
All this info should be put in a sidebar on this blog. Would be nice.
12:39 pm
Yes, I’m hoping they do so, soon. Until then, I’m trying to post it here (though need to do so differently, to avoid the moderation hiccup).
12:49 pm
And now you can become a Majority Report contributor, via Tumblr. More info to come, but MR’s Tumblr is at:

He said he was drinking Jack Daniels while filming the video!
11:43 am
The NYT had a ‘solve the budget yourself’ app, and it is so clear that dropping the billionair tax cut and reinstating the inheritance tax are key to balancing our budget. Also, no need to cut SS-I almost solved all the deficit out to 2030, and solved it completely in the short term, without touching SS benefits. 11:45 am
Thanks, Rebeccac.
11:48 am
I saw that but haven’t tried it yet.
11:51 am

11:50 am
woooo, happyness didn’t last long…; i am depressed again already…. obama chess playing indeed
11:52 am
Sammy, Evan, Dorsey, et al… you should/could consider a “sponsor a technology” approach to getting some new hardware/software going, similar to the http://DonorsChoose.org website for teachers.
A bit overkill, perhaps, considering you’re still working on a Paypal/donation button.
11:52 am
How’s the guest’s levels, gang?
11:55 am
mornin evan,
good sound here.
11:56 am
Sounds great here too. Perfect!
11:58 am
Awesome. Thanks, guys.

12:02 pm
I can understand every word.
12:14 pm
Phone call went great, Evan. wooHOO!!
11:54 am
i’d like to hear his views on propagandas influence on child rearing.
12:03 pm
The flipside of that fear is bullying-they are only not afraid when they are bullying or dominating who/what they fear. Maybe that’s obvious, but I always stumble over reconciling the emotion with the response. And why they like to beat up on the weaker ones-like the poor, the marginalized.
12:04 pm
Morning kids ….. I’m late – was feeding my kitties outside.
It’s always great to hear Sammy’s soothing, genius voice.
12:09 pm
Ideology is louder than the numbers. That’s true. The repetitive shouting is drowning out reason.
12:14 pm
Obama did heavily imply that he would change things. Implication is sometimes stronger than the actual words.
12:14 pm
this was an amazing interview; sam needs to post here the complete title of the book and author so we can look it up

12:23 pm
Right Sam. I worked as election judge and noticed this.
12:25 pm
Sorry, I should mention that the lack of independents at the poll I worked was astounding. Most people were vociferous when they came in that they were either Dem or Repub. Never heard that as much at other elections.
12:23 pm
that interview really plunged me into some kind of funk; so now that’s what we have to look forward to, we will have to wait for a generational and demographic change before we can see some progressive change in our politics
12:24 pm
For 8 years under Clinton, Republican’s did not compromise and mostly got their way
For 8 years under Bush, Republicans did not compromise and mostly got their way
For 2 years under Obama, Republicans have not compromised and have mostly gotten their way.
So Obama is going to extend tax cut to the wealthy to change the way Washington does business by compromising and giving Republicans their way.
It depends on what you mean by “change“. Now it means more of the same.
12:34 pm
That’s a painful and all too accurate summation, brr.
(p.s. Ah-ha! I think I know what someone else meant when they used the abbreviation “brr”!)
2:34 pm
You sure? I think I feel a draft in here. Turn up the heat Sam!
12:25 pm
He also talked about no mandate for hcr, as opposed to HRC. Yes…along with robust reform.
This was earlier. Then it fell back to mandate, maybe later. OK maybe now. Public option good–but it’s only one way.
12:26 pm
Uh-oh. I think putting more than one link in a comment sends it to “awaiting moderation” limbo.
12:28 pm
Yes. I have also experienced.
12:31 pm
Thanks for confirmation.
12:36 pm
Yep. I have a comment up above still awaiting moderation, posted almost an hour ago. Ugh.
12:33 pm
We r fucked!
12:38 pm
Yep.
12:37 pm
hubbabaloo
It wouldn’t be The Majority Report without Sammy butchering the name of digby’s website. Loving it.
12:40 pm
12:38 pm
OMG! This country is going nuts-o ……
12:38 pm
These debt arrests and judgments just help fill the Corporate Prisons, Privately owned prisons!
1:27 pm
Yep, so much conflict of interest going around that it’s almost pointless to mention it.
6:38 am
Yep, to a certain extent, but remember that “we” (whatever that means) are not the only ones reading this.
(We can hope, anyhow.)
Useful to throw up a link when you refer to what “we” (whatever that means) see as “old news” concepts, but who has time all the time, right?
(For instance me, right now.)
12:39 pm
I cannot show u one instance Sam of a CEO going to jail for NOT paying their debt. NOT ONE!
12:41 pm
so what do you teach your kids when the justice system is so screwed up? look at the jail sentence that the kid who hacked palin’s email got compared with what happened to the banksta’s on wall street.
12:40 pm
Actually they start another company & the ball starts rolling again.
12:42 pm
maybe for the future – in the next life – we should just incorporate as soon as we are born, and put inc after our name in the birth certificate, so that we can have a minimum of guaranteed rights
12:40 pm
i never had a waiting for moderation incident yet wow, i didn’t know i was so moderate!
12:41 pm
You got that right toni!
12:42 pm
Where do I go to DONATE????
12:45 pm
Don’t think he has a pay pal or donate button up yet, Sandy!
1:28 pm
What Toni said… no mechanism available, yet.
12:46 pm
oh shoot, i don’t have access to the inner sanctum because i am at work computer

12:48 pm
Yes indeed-dee – creating jobs is very, very important Sam
12:49 pm
I’m confused mire, but what’s new…. this whole computer thing confuses me anywho. The tumbler thing I’m sure Sam will talk about again.
Thanks toni
12:50 pm

12:58 pm
So HOW would tumblr accounts be distinguished from blog, other than maybe having to be a subscriber?
Like open mics, only have to be wonkier?
1:33 pm
Good question. I’ve no idea what Tumblr offers, at present, nor how it would be integrated with the show.
There really are getting to be so many communication mechanisms that it would be beneficial to understand which is best for each situation. (e.g. IMs and Twitter seem to be the only mechanism, at present, for submitting comments/questions *during* the show)
12:59 pm

Good luck with the “hard launch”… viagra ENGAGE!!!
8:43 am
Seder, your story about the idiots who are calling you constantly for $110 due to a systemic oversight reminds me of my problem with Direct TV.
My Direct TV programming ended sometime during late December ’09 because my apartment’s wiring is horrible. I continued to pay the bills for it for months as I awaited repairs for it for a few months then I canceled it. They continued to bill me for two months, then I switched credit cards; they couldn’t continue to bill me.
The morons don’t believe me when I tell them that I tried to cancel it through their incompetent workers before the credit card expired, (and I was already paying for service that I wasn’t receiving anyway) and are harassing me constantly for a measly $150.
.
I’m in my early thirties, and they are willing to run the risk that, like AT&T I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME
….just to squeeze $150 out of me.
If corporations are people their I.Q. is somewhere around room temperature. And these are the people who are shaking us down from the inside.
1:01 am
I’m in my early thirties, and they are willing to run the risk that, like AT&T I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME
….just to squeeze $150 out of me.
I’ve refused to do business with a lot of bastards for more decades than you’ve been alive, and the horrid truth is, there’s another one born every minute, and our custom is not missed.
4:46 pm
Great show. I’ve been catching up today, listening to your “soft” launch pods. all great!
The discussion Monday with Jonathan Weiler was superb. His child-raising-political-bent analysis will be quite useful in my constant quest to make sense out of the things people say and do when they try to use their brains to articulate their personal philosophies. Or favorite TV show. Although does it explain why Tosh2.0 does so well?
One little observation that may help in your quest for an understanding of who our President is now, as opposed to who you think he was when you voted for him. Go back and look at his debates during the primaries and then the general election and you should see that what happened was that he spoke in such an altruistic “Bobby Kennedy” way about poverty, ending war, universal healthcare, etc. during the primary. Very likely this was because he was up against a couple of very progressive contenders; Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, John Edwards, Cynthia McKinny and the man who should be President, Ralph Nader. On the other hand he also had his congressional peers, Biden, Dodd & Clinton who I figure it was about showing them up. It was a great strategy to win the primary and it worked. He completely enamored the “base”, and once enamored, they became blind. That must be why in the General election, even though his rhetoric changed, perhaps in mostly subtle ways, but nonetheless no one still seems to have noticed but me (well no one else I’ve spoken with in my cave in the woods). Count the number of times his speeches included the word “poverty” before and after the General Election…
Another thing you can do is go look at his Harvard Law bio. When he was running for President of the Harvard Law Review, he used the same “compromise is a good thing” rhetoric to win, and once seated he gave the majority power to the “right”. PBS did a documentary on him and McCain during the Primary and anyone who watched that could have easily predicted how an Obama presidency would turn out.
Think about how Hillary managed to become his right-hand even before he won. It wasn’t out of pity or sympathy for the female vote. It was neo-liberalism, plain and simple.
I like that you understand that “labels” need to be defined so that we both have the same understanding when one is used. Likewise, we should not let the mainstream narrative unduly influence our ultimate quest to re-frame, view from another angle, think outside the box, UNDERSTAND what the heck is really going on.
I think a pretty simple rule-of-thumb is along the lines of weighing the pros and cons. What’s the upside-downside of an issue’s realization.
On to the real Launch now. Oomgha!
