Wanna participate in The Majority Report?

    ===> Check this out. <===

  2. Nefferkitti says:

    Morning gang!

  3. No conference calls today. I can listen live!!! Stupid job.

  4. Rebeccac says:

I really want to be a professional leftist but can’t quite afford it. :(

  5. ShelaghC says:

Where are the subscriber options? I’m not seeing them.

  6. Rebeccac says:

My favorite comment on this story on facebook: it’s the medal of HONOR not the medal of MEGADEATHandDESTRUCTION!

  7. UGH am I on the right thread now and why does Jesus have a British accent?

  8. did anybody get a response from signing up yesterday?

  9. daveyeah says:

    Nice groove for the break.

  10. What’s the IM again that Sam is reading during the show? I’m never ready to write it down when he says it!

  11. Nefferkitti says:

IMs are not read during the show but after the main show – IM to use
with AIM AIM express or any AIM friendly compatible IM program is
    majorityfm

  12. Pretzelogic in Philly PA says:

Sammy mentioned yesterday that the SammyCam would not have sound in “the 1st part of the show” – I’m still curious: what’s up with that? Why not include the sound from the beginning?

    • plooger says:

My guess is they may, eventually, but don’t want to take on too much technically, early on. Keeping everybody on the one stream for the main show may help with tracking growth, as well. (just speculation)

      • Nefferkitti says:

Also – the sound for the podcast is easier to keep clean by keeping the show on the mic only – isolating it from picking up any distracting sounds that might occur.
I think if they could get the vid and stream to sync then it wouldnt make much of a difference…IMHO.

    • i had the impression that the ustream was several seconds behind and was creating some confusion so they killed the audio portion.

      • plooger says:

Not sure why they were so interested in the synchronization between Ustream and the audio feed, since Ustream has its own audio.

  13. I added a paragraph to the Wikipedia entry for The Majority Report, the page does need some editing though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Majority_Report

  14. James "Rolin" Stone says:

Good show I guess. I came in way late and will have to replay it later, but sounded like you were talking some good shit.

Some notions of mine on modern political science:

A Libertarian should never be confused with a Progressive. They do have some Liberal notions, but Liberals are not socially in the same political vein as a Progressive either.

Libertarians, for instance, do not believe in the kind of foreign military interventions that the Amerikan Empire has become. But they do not have the least problem in having their Amerikan Military Industrial Complex build the weapons, loan the money and otherwise profit from some other country sacrificing their citizens on the battlefield.

Liberals also tend to embrace the marketplace in more of a corporate way than Progressives. That’s what has happened to (been exposed about) President Obama. Also anyone paying attention would have known this to also be true about the Clintons before Bill’s 2nd term. They have mutated into what is now known as neo-liberalism. “Neo” pertains to the corporate influence. I’ve never heard Progressives named in this fashion, “neo-progressive”, but it somehow sounds almost complementary, rather than derogatory.

Self-proscribed Liberals also tend to be elitists more and more from what I see. Particularly in the “celebrity” demographic. Liberals tend to pronounce the problem, then prescribe their solution, where Progressives tend to offer both a definition and solution to a problem, with consensus as the goal. Liberals treat you like a child just as a conservative does.

That may be why it’s getting so hard to tell the two parties apart as Noam Chomsky, Gore Vidal Ralph Nader and others of that caliber tend to point out from “off-camera”.

Progressives are more organic than either Liberals, Libertarians or Conservatives. They have more in common with the Green and Independant parties than Liberals as well. Liberals tend to think that the Democratic party is still viable and only needs fixing. That’s a Detroit mentality and why we can still only buy fossil-fueled cars in 99.999% of the market. Tiger and Auto Advance will still be booming businesses years after global peak oil because of this kind of mindset. Has anyone else, especially anyone who was around and awake during the late 70s after the OPEC market boycott, noticed that the environmental cries has become silent in both DC and Detroit, and all the car commercials are back to selling every aspect of their “consumer appeal” except their ecological advancement/improvement. Increasing mileage doesn’t count either.

    • plooger says:

Way too labelly. I don’t care what someone calls or considers themselves, or what they’re called by other people. All that matters is what they do.

      • James "Rolin" Stone says:

Labeling is very important. Not because of the reason you rebut them, I agree with your thinking, but because it is the weapon that the right uses to defeat US. We have to fight fire with fire or the likes of Frank Luntz will define and label US to death.

      • James "Rolin" Stone says:

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

    • plooger says:

Has anyone else…noticed that the environmental cries has become silent in both DC and Detroit, and all the car commercials are back to selling every aspect of their “consumer appeal” except their ecological advancement/improvement. Increasing mileage doesn’t count either.

      • James "Rolin" Stone says:

It’s just like the decade following the OPEC oil crisis. The result of that environmental challenge was the “mini-van”, which evolved into the conscience-soothing fake solution we now call the SUV. The Hummer was an outcrop of that movement’s popularity.

Soemething half-assed happens, then we slip back even worse.

I didn’t know they were building that humongous 911 ship until I saw the coin commercials. How big is that thing? Runs on diesel right?

  15. i cant get any video at all either on u stream or sam’s majority site.

Do i have to join ustream to get it to work?

    • plooger says:

No, I don’t believe so. But you would need a browser with the latest Flash Player plugin installed.

  16. James "Rolin" Stone says:

Look at it another way, it’s not about dollar amounts, it’s about affordability. Have someone research airline passenger numbers and graph a curve showing those numbers in relation to cost. I’ll bet that will give you you answer.

And I believe gasoline will get “exorbitantly” expensive. It’s the entrenched corporate mindset. Do I need to elaborate?

  17. James "Rolin" Stone says:

“Rubicon”? I thought that was excellent and quite close to “reality”.

    • plooger says:

Yeah, but people don’t want to deal with reality in down times; they crave escapism.

      • James "Rolin" Stone says:

But “down times” are the only time “reality” needs “dealing with”…

Well I always thought words like “grownup” and “mature” were highly over-rated anyway.

  18. I liked that my point stumped Sammy for a few seconds…

    Other thoughts:
Auto travel is statistically more dangerous than airline travel.
Would Sam be opposed to x-ray scans and/or groping for Taxi/Bus travel?

And I can’t wait for the first unbashful passenger with a concern about radiation (or principles) to walk over to the pat-down area, exclaiming “BackOff!” while pulling off his shirt and dropping his sweats to reveal his thong undies.

The TSA guy would probably throw up his arms and roll his eyes.
    “Ok, ok…go” he would groan…

    • James "Rolin" Stone says:

I wonder how much of all this really goes to the crummy labor practices surrounding TSA employment? They get paid like “night watchmen”: crappy. And other conditions are also bad. Once upon a time there was grassroots support for them and it seemed to fall by the wayside. Maybe they all feel abandoned and don’t “give a shit” anymore. I mean burgerking pays just as well and in some ways the conditions are much better I would think.

      • Rebeccac says:

aren’t they forbidden to unionize? wasn’t that GWB’s gift to the right-no unions in the Dept of Homeland Security. And I thought they were outsourced too.

        • James "Rolin" Stone says:

Not sure about “forbid”. do you mean like it’s against the law? How can they do that and at the same time deny them Civil Service benefits?

          Oh, yeah because they can…

But all the more reason for a grassroots movement. Actually all we need is to congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act.

Sometimes I don’t think we pick our battles the way we should.

  19. James "Rolin" Stone says:

Dereck Jensen, Naomi Klein, Naomi Wolf, John Perkins, John Pilger, Adam Curtis, Jeremy Scahill, Glen Greenwald, etc. would be great guests to have on the show. and others slipping my tiny mind just now. Oh, how about Zooey Deschanel? I hear she’s quite progressive, out-spoken, funny and even a little “silverman-esque”…

  20. HELP

  21. James "Rolin" Stone says:
  22. Nyckname says:

Pink was considered a masculine color from the 1920s into the 1940s.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink#In_gender

    • plooger says:

Here’s my view, if one is concerned about whether a pink shirt conveys masculinity, the question has already been answered.
