“…he is dead to me”:
What did I miss where he finally ______?
(Fill in the blank with your own version of what would prolly get moderated out if I typed it.)
12:00 pm
this fed freeze was my last straw
12:40 pm
If someone you loved held a gun at you and began to fire. Would you forgive them the first bullet? How about the second bullet?
Presidential power is so much more consequential than someone who doesn’t pay back the 20 bucks they borrowed over drinks, don’t you think?
Maybe we are too tolerant of decision-makers whose decisions have mortal consequences, very often unseen and/or not directly in evidence.
12:53 pm
Yeah, it’s stunning to see one of Obama’s first actions post-election to be yet another move against what would be considered a progressive platform. Yet another attack on the working class to appease the elites.
1:01 pm
against a democratic platform…I gave up on him being progressive when I listened to his speeches….he is just like clinton…a republican
2:27 pm
I think there was so much “reminiscing” in the 2008 election. I think many older and boomer gens were superimposing the Kennedy mystique onto the Junior Senator from Illinois.
When I first heard him do the opening speech at the Dem convention in 2004. I immediately thought of Bobby Kennedy myself, and even mused on his future presidency (another part of the problem maybe – his age).
But though I am a poet and a philosopher, I am a pragmatist too and I did my homework during the 2008 primaries.
Anyone who took a serious look at his bio could see when he left grassroots, he left grassroots. His Harvard Law Review run for President was the sound that he echoed in the General election, and his performance then when he won was the playbook he brought to the White House. PBS did a good doc on him and McCain in mid 2008 that covered a lot of this in more detail.
If that didn’t do it, then watching the debates should have. All his progressive “anti-poverty” “anti-corporate-pro-public” talk melted away as he licked his opponents one-by-one, until he hit the General election. I challenge anyone to send me a source that shows any of his media debates after the primary that compared in progressive substance. For myself I never heard Obama give “poverty” any coverage at all in the General. I heard McCain say “poverty”, but in a different negative context.
And then there’s the Unitary Executive and the War Crimes and other crimes that he not just inherited by law, but furthered. And then there are the campaign promises he has been breaking one at a time ever since.
Honestly I don’t undertstand how any rational person could have voted for Obama over even Dennis Kucinich, much less Ralph Nader, or even scandaled John Edwards. Mike Gravel would have been a stronger, more determined President.
And when it became apparent he was going to neo-lib his State Department, red flags should have flown to such an extent that the Earth would look like Mars from space.
Personally I’m reminded of the first girl who broke up with me, and consequently it was my first LOVE (my first obsession).
That’s the Catch-22 about “betrayal”. It surprises the intellect, which we otherwise “need” to believe is unshakable, not gullible.
I guess a hugely collective stress played it’s part as well. But like I said, how much is enough?
11:43 am
BREAKING: The New York Times just reported that Comcast will block Netflix unless a new fee is paid to Comcast — so Netflix’s price goes up and people use Comcast’s video service instead.
This outrageous abuse of power by Comcast comes on the very week that President Obama’s FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski will announce whether he’ll fulfill Obama’s promise to protect the open Internet and Net Neutrality — which would prevent this type of corporate abuse.
The FCC needs to hear from us now, before the chairman’s big announcement this week.

Morning all.
Can anyone vet this? Sounds too good to be true, and yet at the same time a little dangerously foolish if it is…

12:08 pm
Forbes: So will you return to the model of higher number of targets and sources?
A: Yes. Though I do actually think…[pauses] These big package releases. There should be a cute name for them.
Forbes: Megaleaks?
A: Megaleaks. That’s good. These megaleaks…
—–
Actually I though “big package” was kind of cute.
But I know that’s not what you were asking…
12:12 pm
thought not though
12:20 pm
har, har
12:23 pm
Do you think Assuage would take such a chance as that? People get assassinated for a lot less…
And really I guess just having the story out there, true or not could endanger his life?
That’s why I asked. Forbes, a business medium would have reason to resent wikileaks just as all political business allies do.
12:47 pm
In some ways, you could see where notoriety keeps him safer–tho not if they get Wikileaks classified as a terrorist group b/c then the gov’t can have him offed with absolute impunity (as opposed to just comparative).
I don’t know what to think…such a glossy pic–such star treatment. But the conversational style with the interviewer is like a chess game (or at least poker) no?
I will believe he’s legit until I see something convincing to the contrary…

Sam: “The day after 9/11″
Stephanie: “Yes, when the country came together”
Cheney (at that time): “IT WORKED!! We have our war-support”
12:06 pm
“The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
- Hermann Goering
12:07 pm
“Beware of the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fever, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.”
– Julius Caesar
12:07 pm
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the state can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie … The truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the state.”
- Joseph Goebels (Nazi Minister of Propaganda)
12:08 pm
Can you provide an article documenting that Cheney said that?
12:12 pm
Of course not. It’s satire. My apology. I figured the lack of a source would tip you.
Wouldn’t it be cool if we had such a quote on tape/video? Probably wouldn’t matter. We kill the messengers anymore and the hell with the truth!

Anyone want to take a guess which Bank Wikileaks will dump on first?
12:36 pm
Do you believe this story? Not that Wikileaks would or could, but that Assauge would “leak” that he was gonna do it?
Seems risky to me. Governments are dangerous, but banks? I would rather have the Feds chasing me. And I’m not trying to be funny, even though it sounds that way.
There are no more powerful an institution in our world than the banks.

Ellsberg is enamored with Manning over what he may have done (may have – he’s only a “suspected leaker”) and lionizes him whenever I’d heard him talk about it.
Ellsberg is a hero of mine. Not just because he exposed the Rand corp and our collusive, lying gov, but becuase through his courage, I didn’t have to go to Vietnam and die…
So if Manning is Ellsberg’s hero than Manning is my hero too!

Pre-empted by Obama again.

He want’s tax cut just for middle class.

So basically the GOP leaders are telling us that Obama apologized for being mean to them and promised to be nicer?
12:53 pm
We wouldn’t have a deficit or a debt if we did not have a monetary system that is based on money being created as credit/debt, and allowed the “private” banking industry to control the economy. It’s all manipulated.

Ecuador offers WikiLeak’s founder Assange residency, no questions asked
thanks to Gloryoski for posting this at the Sam Seder Show blog
AFP November 29, 2010
QUITO – Ecuador on Monday offered Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder who has enraged Washington by releasing masses of classified U.S. documents, residency with no questions asked.
“We are ready to give him residence in Ecuador, with no problems and no conditions,” Deputy Foreign Minister Kintto Lucas told the Internet site Ecuadorinmediato.
“We are going to invite him to come to Ecuador so he can freely present the information he possesses and all the documentation, not just over the Internet but in a variety of public forums,” he said….

Yes, it would be a Latin country. Way to go!!!
Do you think that is far enough away from the reach of SOA grads/cronies?
1:04 pm
Well we know they got some still in the country. I haven’t kept up on how strictly they were planning to punish the coup guys. I know that leftist ex-minister I was reading about the other month who is now critical of how Correa is managing mining said throw the book at them someone in the gov’t said keep you advice to yourself. Links later…but maybe not till tonight.
2:31 pm
Could it be a trap?
3:22 pm
You gonna make me look more at that Ecuador stuff that was confusing me when I was trying to figure out about the factions there and Eva Golinger’s allegations and all…?
Alright, at least it’s “professional dev” (kinda). (I am an eternally future language professional.)
Tentative answer: On the gov’t's part (Ecuador), I don’t think so. He seems genuinely cool on some things and I think this is one of those things…
I will look at Spanish-language stuff.
12:57 pm
Obama is talking shit… unbelievable. Calling both sides spoiled brats (not exact words).

Web companies close ranks to oppose merger of NBC Universal, Comcast
By Gautham Nagesh – 11/29/10 12:33 PM ET
A group of leading Internet companies including Google, Yahoo!, Amazon.com and Wikipedia on Monday urged the government to reject Comcast’s proposed acquisition of NBC Universal Monday on the grounds that it will limit competition.
The firms are part of NetCoalition, an advocacy group that is also funded by Bloomberg, CNET Networks and IAC/Interactive Corp. Many of the firms have previously stated their opposition to the merger through the Coalition for Competition in Media.
“The Internet remains one of the most dynamic forces in our economy, one that provides choice and access to millions of users worldwide. This merger puts too much of that resource in too few hands,” said Markham Erickson, executive director of NetCoalition.

The internet will at once be the tool that could give US back our Democracy, but is at severe risk of corporate-political takeover. Big Brother is Big Brother, and when push comes to shove. When freedom vs control, freedom will lose…
Unless WE THE PEOPLE get a whole lot busier… we need Facebook numbers to effect change. Bigger numbers than I’ve seen since 1968 here in the states.
