Guests: Talking Points Memo Reporter/Blogger Brian Beutler
Today is Boehner Day! Sam starts off the show with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s speech as she hands over the large “making up for some inadequacies” gavel to the new Speaker of the House John Boehner. And then to be fair, airs just a few whelps from Boehner’s speech.
Elizabeth Warren is amazing – and she keeps on showing it by naming Holly Patraeus (wife of, yes that’s right, General David Patraeus) to the Consumer Financial Protection Agency in charge of protecting military families from predatory lenders. Sam explains how this is a very smart move to strengthen the CFPA.
And now it’s time for:

Will Obama’s pick for White House Chief of Staff inspire hope for change? Nope.
Poverty? We gots it. Lots of it.
We’ll probably stay under 10% unemployment. Yea.
Now back to Boehner and Congress – Brian Beutler, reporter and blogger for Talking Points Memo, survives a Boehner press conference to talk to Sam about Cut-Go and the tax loophole, the CBO, the Budget Committee, and filibusterer reform. His explanations are thorough and well worth a listen to get up-to-speed on some complex topics.
BREAKING NEWS – Majority.FM opens Boehner Cries website. Try to catch ‘em all!
Finally, in the soon to be sequestered After Show, Sam covers some news stories he didn’t have time for in the main show and takes listener IMs – Don’t miss it. Become a Majority Report Member to support the show!

Hi yeah sure the website for the photo album for the khumbu lodge house is also in sanskrit but is http://mahaprajapativihar.insightdeliverysystems.com but anybody can go to http://insightdeliverysystems.com and click the link from there….visitors don’t need to be buddhist of course…trekkers…climbers…environmental scientists…writers, artists or activists needing to recharge their batteries. It is rent free but visitors would pay their own electricity in the place and travel and hopefully leave a positive or neutral influence on the local community/environment.
5:39 pm
very generous offer, thanks!

I am curious about the latest thinking wish indicates to you that Boehner is going to be fragged. You use Trent Lott as an analogy, but I believe you are mistaken. Absolutely Lott was done in by republicans, but the direction came from the White House. As I recall, Lott saw an opportunity to bolster his own authority at the expense of the (then) relatively weak Bush administration. Several articles were published back then about how Lott intended to have Bush pay tribute to him in order to get things accomplished. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/11/10/us/2002-election-congress-acquiring-full-control-congress-republicans-gained-new.html?scp=144&sq=trent+lott+2001&st=nyt
Lott was eliminated by Rove as an impediment to White House power. I don’t see why the GOP would be troubled with yet another clown as speaker. Perhaps you will illuminate.

I believe if they try to Boehner will say “hell no you can’t!” and go into a drunken rage like you’ve never seen. sobbing, yelling, sobbing.

As a fan of Sam’s, I am also a fan of Marc Maron. Very cool write up about Maron in the NYTimes today.

” THE PODCAST COFFEE WARS BEGIN! ”

What happens to a man when Boehner cries?
Crank Bait says:
I am no expert but I would guess that it triggers a primal drive to steal his lunch money.
8:55 pm
Hmmm. Somehow in Boehner’s case I think of it more as a Crying Bandit scenario.
9:04 pm
it’s only experience that leads you to think that.
5:34 pm
Boehner’s tears activate my eye and ear flaps to ignore mode
pretty effective conditioning eh?
