Guests: Filmmaker Josh Fox & Matt “The conservative from Twitter”

On this episode of The Majority Report, Sam starts the show by calling out some Democrats for their violent rhetoric like Joe Manchin and Paul Kanjorski while trying not to pass out from Dorsey’s Cologne Overload.

Seder then goes back in time to talk about Blood Libel while highlighting that the people that are the happiest about the Palin-implosion is the GOP.

Up next, Gasland, director Josh Fox discusses the film and the health and environmental dangers of the current nationwide frenzy to drill for natural gas, AKA hyrdofracking. Fracking is a process to release natural gas by pumping millions of gallons of water mixed with chemicals and sand at high pressure thousands of feet underground to create fissures.  These chemicals are mixing with the ground water – and the effects can be seen in the picture below:

Man setting his drinking water on fire in Gasland

Gasland can be found on Netflix or Amazon.

Wrapping things up, Seder gets back into the groove of embarrassing conservatives with facts and reason while debating Twitterer Matt (anonymous by request) about the difference between gun sights with the slogan “Don’t Retreat.  Reload.” and using the word “target” in a political post on Daily Kos.  Matt tries to tie some of Obama’s words to violence, but not all that convincingly. This was only a warm up for Sam because Matt was pretty levelheaded and agreed that the violent rhetoric should stop no matter what side it came from.  We’re still looking for a new Dewey.

And in the soon to be sequestered After Show Sam lets his hair down, does some surveying and takes IMs from listeners – be sure to become a Majority Report Member to support the show!

BONUS: Check out the terrifying “flaming faucet” clip from the film below.

Mobilization against extreme (“AZ style”) anti-immigrant and other anti-worker legislation that is slated to be rushed through the VA General Assembly.

    [excerpt from email]

…The 7 anti-immigrant bills are expected to move through the short session of the General Assembly over the next two weeks, ostensibly to get them to the floor before public opposition is increased. A similar process exists for the bills pertaining to workers rights.

Activists and citizens are mobilizing across the state to bring attention to this these issues pointing out that:

-The bills are a full scale attack on undocumented people in Virginia, turning state police and all public employees into immigration enforcement officers, denying services and education to immigrants, and encouraging racial profiling.

-Along with legislation designed to limit workers abilities to file workers compensation claims, legislators will also be moving to embed Virginia’s “right to work” laws in the state constitution, laws that already exist as statute, but harder to repeal if added to the constitution. In addition, another constitutional change is being proposed adding language that mandates a “secret ballot” when workers try to form unions and leave the decision of how and when a union forms in the hands of business owners rather than employees…

  5. Sammy, if memory serves, that was the Cap and Trade bill Manchin was using for target practice, not the Healthcare bill…

  6. Palin’s Timing

First Read: “By releasing this video a full 15 hours before tonight’s memorial service — and thanks to the relatively slow day in the political world before tonight — her video will get plenty of attention. And whether she meant to or not, there will likely be a stark contrast drawn between her words and what the president says tonight. And that leads us to a few questions for folks to ponder: Should she have released this via Web video? Why not do this via interview? Should she have released this video BEFORE today’s memorial service or waited until tomorrow? Is it fair to use this video to judge her ability to be presidential at a time of crisis or national tragedy? If so, was this a presidential-caliber speech? There’s been a lot of finger-pointing by the very loud base voices on both sides of the political spectrum, most of it playing out on the internet/Twitter/prime-time cable. This video is only going to serve to feed that beast.”

Sarah Palin puts foot in mouth (again) with blood libel moan http://bit.ly/fSqWJW #Palin #bloodlibel #arizona #giffords #tucson #loughner

The @SarahPalinUSA ‘my words have no consequences but words ABOUT my words can incite violence’ claim is laugh out loud funny

Lastly @SarahPalinUSA invoking the anti-semitism of the “blood libel” might not sit well with people who are Jewish…Like Rep. Giffords

Driving through Pennsylvania this summer, I heard what seemed to be a daily call-in radio show about the Marcellus (sp?) shale and how to lease your land to the gas company. Lots of happy talk from the hosts about the process; no concerns expressed. I had no idea what it was about but listened for at least an hour. How can the process of leasing your land merit a daily call-in show (unless there were concerns)? When the little guy makes a deal with the big corporation, isn’t there always a risk of exploitation (especially if the big corp is Halliburton)? Glad to hear about this issue on Sam’s show. It seemed like a major topic in that area of the country and the rest of us know little or nothing about it.

Sam, you got no medium-term memory? To put a picture like that into my head? Think red panties…Obviously with a white GB on each cheek in this case.

The rightwinger from twitter, Matt, referenced a bomb plot at the RNC. That is the RNC8, the person he named is actually an FBI informant, and the results of the prosecution? “In August 2010, Erik Oseland accepted a plea agreement to a single gross misdemeanor charge. In September 2010, all charges against Monica Bicking, Eryn Trimmer, and Luce Guillén-Givins were dropped, leaving four defendants to face trial beginning on October 25, 2010.” These last got gross misdemeanor convictions. So much for the bombing plot on the RNC.
