Guest: Katherine Gallagher from the Center for Constitutional Rights

Artist/cartoonist DonkeyHotey created this awesome (though damn disturbing) pic of Sam and his new Shure microphone, the Lindsey Graham. (Click the image for a larger version.) Check out Donkeyhotey’s Flickr Photo Stream for more pictures of Sam, comedians, politicians, and media figures. There’s some really great stuff there.

And just a reminder if you are purchasing anything from Amazon.com you can bookmark this link and if you use it to purchase anything MR gets a little money in commissions. There is also a new Majority Report Store where we will put links to books and movies of guests of the show.

The show starts today as it has for the past two weeks with news from Egypt. Protests in Tahrir Square swelled today as the Egyptian labor unions have gone on nationwide strike.

Al Jazeera correspondents, reporting from Egypt, said around 20,000 factory workers stayed away from work on Wednesday.

And from Juan Cole’s Informed Comment website:

Demonstrators broke new ground, spilling into arteries around Tahrir Square and taking up positions across from the parliament building. They also advanced toward the building where the cabinet meets.

Sam created a Twitter list to follow feeds from people in Egypt in real time. Just click on this link and you can choose to follow the list or just read the Tweets. An example of some the incredible responses in this list:

And Twiturn is still posting audio from those in Egypt.

Breaking News – Senator Jim Webb will not run for reelection in 2012. It is a loss to lose him in the Senate and it will make it even harder to keep the seat Democratic in Virginia.

Katherine Gallagher Senior Staff Attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) joins Sam to discuss President George W. Bush’s torture indictment that has put the kibosh on his travel plans. Sam also digs into other torture cases from Spain that Katherine Gallagher is involved in and how some WikiLeaks cables have shed more light on those cases.

Listen to the interview.

The House GOP got a harsh introduction to the majority with the Patriot Act defeat yesterday. <Hey! Wha Happened?>

On The Flip Side (it seems that now Sam is settling on this as the name for the member’s only post show) Sam declares the Tea Party a joke (going out on a limb there!), sees peak oil, breaks the rules on name drop Friday, reminisces on The Bad Situationist, and takes listener IM’s. Please become a  Majority Report member so you don’t miss the Flip Side podcasts when we hit lock-down next week!

And if  you are looking to buy some free trade coffee, tea or chocolate be sure to check out JustCoffee.coop and use MAJORITY in the coupon box to get 10% off!

Tomorrow Sam welcomes Jamie Court from Consumer Watchdog!
