Thursday’s show starts with some breaking news on Egypt: Mubarak will speak at 3:00pm EST.

UPDATE – BREAKING NEWS: Though many thought that Mubarak would announce  he was stepping down instead he confirmed that he is committed to continue as president until his term is over in September but has delegated powers to the vice president Omar Suleiman, who also spoke today.

Protesters in Tahrir Square chant “Leave! Leave! Leave!” while waving their shoes after hearing the speech.

Mubarak was 50 minutes late for his address. This generated a great Twitter hashtag – Why Mubarak is late.

From Al Jazeera English:

The Egyptian military has been secretly detaining and torturing those it suspects of being involved in pro-democracy protests

These popular protests in Cairo have released the fury of the middle and under-classes in Egypt- Sam Seder

CNN’s Ivan Watson speaks to Egyptian Google executive Wael Ghonim. Sam focuses on Ghonim’s statements about how the internet fueled this revolution.

So what’s the score on the 112th Congress? 2 resignations and 0 legislation. Republican Congressman for New York Chris Lee resigned after a “fit, fun, and classy” photo leaked from CraigsList. Another married, right wing, family values Republican looking to get a little bit on the side. Stay classy.

House GOP is stumbling and is having a tough time dealing with the new resident nut-jobs. Speaking of nut-jobs, Jon Kyl will not seek reelection in 2012.

Product DetailsConsumer advocate Jamie Court, president of ConsumerWatchdog.org and author of the book, “The Progressive Guide to Raising Hell” joins Sam to discuss the health care mandate and the repeal efforts by the House. He would like to see the mandate removed from the bill and just keep good provisions in. Sam steers the conversation to the skyrocketing health care premium hikes in California and Blue Shield’s pledge to raise rates as high as 59%.

Jamie Court’s book as well as other Majority Report guests’ tomes can be found and purchased via the MR Book and Movie Shop.
