Guests: Movieline’s Chris Rosen and Actor/Farmer/Mayoral Candidate Ross Brockley
Just 10 minutes before the show started today Twitter blew up with messages that Mubarak has stepped down. It was confirmed that vice president Omar Suleiman announced Mubarak waived his office and handed over authority to the Supreme Council of the armed forces.
Just how central was the youth movement to this revolution? This is from The Wall Street Journal about the first protests:
These demonstrators weren’t, as the popular narrative has held, educated youth who learned about protests on the Internet. They were instead poor residents who filled a maze of muddy, narrow alleyways, massed in front of a neighborhood candy store and caught security forces flatfooted.

Next, Sam begins to explain a story that couldn’t be more complicated if a spy novelist wrote it. This will be a focus next week as Sam will talk to Glenn Greenwald about it on Monday. For simplicities sake, listen to the MR podcast for Sam’s explanation about how one story about a man who tried to track down the members of the hacker group Anonymous, how they got back at him by hacking his emails and releasing them to the public and that lead to people digging through those emails to find that he was targeting progressive people and groups supporting WikiLeaks, including Glenn Greenwald. Wow – long story longer – told you it was complicated.

On The Flip Side Sam spoke to Ross Brockley to catch up on what he has been doing in Nebraska for the past few years. He’s still farming, is running for mayor of Lincoln, Nebraska, designing anti Fed money with corn on it and speaks of Maron. Sam finishes the week off with listener IMs.
