Guest: Professor Lawrence Lessig

Representative Peter King is scheduled to open hearings on Thursday to examine the supposed radicalization of American Muslims – or should we just call it as we see it – hearings to stoke fears of Americans against certain non-Christian citizens. Well, it seems that King was pro-radicals before he was anti-radicals with his support of the Irish Republican Army. Republican hypocrite? Really?

Discussions about enacting another repatriation tax holiday are back and it doesn’t change the fact that it does nothing to help create jobs or stimulate the economy. In 2004 when Congress lowered the tax rate from 35% to 5.25% studies found that companies put the windfall of new money into stock repurchases and dividend payouts. I found this great older article on the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities website that talks about what exactly is a repatriation tax holiday and has more study findings including “many firms laid off workers even as they reaped substantial benefits from the tax holiday and passed them on to shareholders.”

Professor of Law at Stanford Law School Lawrence Lessig joins Sam to discuss how money has fundamentally corrupted our political system and how we can return power to the American people.

Lawrence Lessig is also founder and Chairman of the Board at Fix Congress First.

Breaking News: Political columnist David Broder dies.
