Guests: Photojournalist Wesley Cheek, Movieline.com’s Chris Rosen, and comedian Andy Kindler

We can best describe today’s show as “Guest-full” as Sam jam-packs the show with so many guests it bleeds over to the Members Only Show. From on the ground reporting in Japan, to what movies to watch this weekend, to just about anything else; the Casual Friday Majority Report Recap starts now! (Become a Majority Report Member to receive the Members Only show podcast and get the entire interview with Andy Kindler.)

Majority Report listener, photojournalist, and teacher living in Japan Wesley Cheek will report for the Majority Report all next week as he travels to the hardest hit areas in Japan. We’ll let Wesley explain why he is doing it, taken from his website:

Beginning late this Friday the 25th I will be traveling to the Tohoku region to cover the ongoing aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami.  I am quite worried that the attention of the world is going to turn away just as the true weight of the refugee crisis begins to be realized.  I am also a bit dismayed at some of the foreign coverage of the disaster and the fact that some large networks have  pulled back to Kansai, reporting details such as “It’s raining in Kyoto.”

Stay tuned to the Majority Report all next week to hear Wesley’s reports from on the ground in Japan.

On to the quickly changing story in Libya. The US is transitioning the No Fly Zone aspect of the Libyan war to NATO but that doesn’t mean the US is taking too much of a backseat in this whole thing.

Obama will finally deliver a speech to America on Monday to:

update the American people on the situation in Libya, including the actions we’ve taken with allies and partners to protect the Libyan people from the brutality of Muammar Qaddafi, the transition to NATO command and control, and our policy going forward.

And in new Libya news, the rebels have taken control of the eastern town of Ajdabiya.

Juan Cole’s website Informed Comment is a great place to get thoughtful commentary on what is going on in The Middle East including this piece on the Top Ten Accomplishments of the No Fly Zone.

The Senior Editor of MovieLine.com Chris Rosen joins Sam for his weekly Stay-At-Home movie picks.

Amazon On Demand: The Switch (Sam gives a big raspberry on the pick)

Netflix: Hoop Dreams

Finally comedian Andy Kindler joins the show and talks to Sam about movies, his beef with MSNBC, and religion/anti-religion – causing some ruffled feathers with listeners on IM. If you are not a Majority Report member you will miss out on a decent chunk of Sam’s interview with Andy and listener responses. So join to support the show and get the full nearly 2 hour podcast!

    mornin gang!

  2. poor Andy… sounds angry. ‘sokay, he’s disappointed in some Obama supporters and they are disappointed in Obama… I guess it all works out in the end.

  3. sophia says:

Kindler has a problem with egotism, but still loves Obama?

I don’t see ANY clear driving force behind Obama’s decision other than visions of his own glory.

  4. Andy Kindler not caring about Larry Summers working for Obama is an unintentional joke by a comedian who doesn’t understand economics, or he simply hasn’t seen the documentary Oscar winning “Inside Job.” Sam should have helped his audience and Kindler understand what Summers unleashed.

Having Summers in the Obama cabinet is like Sam Seder having Mark Green as a regular guest on Majority Report to brag about ways to expand the listenership of progressive talk radio.

Summers is to derivatives and the US economy, what Green was to Air America and progressive talk radio.

  5. I saw Andy Kindler,Marc Maron,Eugene Mirman
in the STAND UPPITY Tour “: May 12th, 2008: at the Lakeshore Theatre: chicago.

Kindler had me rolling, was sooo funny!

  6. What do you do? You put one between Kaddafi’s eyes Sam, and then take the political heat for it. What you don’t do is start bombing civilians….

  7. Nancy cadet says:

Carlos is a great film—-worth seeing.
