12/5 Massive UK Strike, Ari Berman, Austerity Measures

December 5, 2011

It’s Monday!

Welcome to another week — on today’s show, Ari Berman (@ariberman) of The Nation (@thenation) joins Sam to talk about the protest strikes in the UK, their impact and how the ripple effect will show up in Europe.   Also discussed, what austerity measures adopted by the British government mean to the United States.  And Ari and Sam talk about the shrinking republican clown car – Cain, Gingrich and Romney.  Could Newt become the nominee?  Will they bet on it?

Also, Sam talks fracking, highlighting a York Times article examining how fracking companies bury the terms of their obligations in complicated contracts with landowners, leaving them with polluted environments.

And in the better half, Sam reports on the real news behind a Labor Department report coming out later this week and we get a call from a listener in Norway who wants to talk Libertarianism.  Your IMs and more!
