It’s J17! Occupy Congress & Corey Robin

Welcome back from the long weekend.  We’ll be hearing from Jeff Smith (@dontbeaputz) live from D.C. today as he participates in the Occupy Congress actions happening in the nation’s capitol today.  Also, author Corey Robin (@CoreyRobin)  joins us to talk about his book The Reactionary Mind: Conservatism from Edmund Burke to Sarah Palin.  Use this post as today’s thread.  Click thru for a SHOW UPDATE.

Corey Robin talks about how great social movements since the 1930′s have provoked reactions from the Right and those reactions take form in order promote their anti-egalitarian world view.  And Jeff Smith calls in as Occupy Congress protesters organize for actions this week.  Sam talks PG&E and check out this link to read Obama’s letter on Seniors & Social Security.

  1. Here’s a really great discussion about the #Occupy Movement from last month. http://newyork.platypus1917.org/what-is-the-occupy-movement/

  2. Great interview with Corey Robin, Sam (loved the Welcome to the Dollhouse reference).

  3. @digby56MT @CoreyRobin: Liberals R in trouble when @davidfrum http://t.co/LmSbUIlz sees racism of GOP & @PeterBeinart doesn’t http://t.co/HOwehatz

  4. For a second there, i thought “Virgil” was from Jersey. And seriously, i imagine the impersonation hard to do after just hearing it, without practice. Though, if Matt’s going in for religious and temporal studies, it’d be a fine time for Sam to hone his hateful-preacher voice. He could use it on Libertarians who call in.

Also, I thought Corey Robin’s work was great for mulling over. I never considered the current conservative thought process to have originated before the 30s.
