I have a recommendation: House of Cards on Netflix Instant Play. Just finished watching all 12 1-hour episodes last night. Great BBC political thriller. Shakespearean fascist scheming politico, Ian Richardson and supporting cast superlative. Couldn’t tear myself away. I swear this is true: the night before those US hostages were rescued from Somalia, I watched the HOC episode that had a manufactured attack and rescue op to boost the schemer’s poll ratings. Creepy.

My mother and I share a subscription. Great mag. But they don’t make their current articles available online for awhile, and often you have to pay. Just go buy the print copy in the better bookstores.

Chris R not answering phone – cause he heard the show and doesn’t want his ignorance further displayed? Just sayin’
Two good songs by Jimmy Reefercake and Screaming Majority today.

Sigh, 12 more listening days, then I’m off disability and back to work in the mornings. I’ve so enjoyed being able to listen live and blog here. Not possible at my workplace.

If I say something racist, will people send me tacos? I like tacos.

India to pay gold instead of dollars for Iranian oil. Oil and gold markets stunned –

    • bikegata@copper.net says:

Marx: gold is both commodity (use value) and not (exchange value). It’s lighter than lead, easier to form into coins.
Indian gold prices will rise (right?) as they use up their stocks to pay the Iranians. This might affect world gold prices, don’t know.

  11. Smack-dab says:

Deflation is bad because when prices are dropping, people will postpone buying (because tomorrow it’ll be cheaper than today). When people postpone buying, it causes a slowdown in production causing economic slowdown.

    • bikegata@copper.net says:

But production happens in *anticipation* of people buying said product, not after. This causes overstock, overproduction. Which is why we have class of economic parasites speculating on how much/many of commodities people will buy.

      • bikegata@copper.net says:

Overproduction -> waste (b/c warehouses fill up with unprofitable products people aren’t buying). What’s a manufacturer to do? Find new markets, flood existing markets and lower the price (not what they prefer to do). Many times destroying the stock and borrowing seed money (we’re talking millions of $) to re tool for making new products. Or move production elsewhere. Or making nothing at all, just speculating on what they’ll do with their ill gotten gains (talking about the mega mega rich), and raking in the casino’s dividends.

Maybe it is time to put a cap on the amount of comment post/submissions certain listeners are allotted?

On a slightly related note. I have two jobs and volunteer at my local Habitat for Humanity “ReStore”. What do you do with your time? If it is anything more substantial than maintain a permanent presence on internet message boards I will be surprised.

I’m glad that you were able to pull yourself away from your humanitarian pursuits to make such an important mean spirited comment. Some humanity just isn’t worth serving, and since you’ve annointed yourself as arbiter, why don’t you contact Sam about donating some of your precious time montoring this blog so as to prevent us lesser folk from taking up too much space.
