Guest: Author Kevin Baker

Shiny new wars, continued Republican douchebaggery, and an excellent interview are in store for you on today’s Majority Report Recap.

Kudos to Ginni Thomas as she joins Tucker Carlson’s The Daily Caller. Funny that the official PR Release doesn’t mention that she is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

An American F15-E fighter jet crashed in Libya. Both pilots ejected safely. It was reported that the crash was caused by a mechanical malfunction.

The corporate spinmeisters at The Wall Street Journal try to get out ahead of this outrage: There is a resurrection of “debtor prisons” and the use of arrest warrants to recoup financial debt.

Kevin Baker, author of Dreamland discusses the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 and how it lead to the transformation of the labor code in New York State.

Let’s count the ways that Rep. Mike Pompeo (R) of Kansas is an asshole:

  • tried to kill a consumer-product-safety database
  • trying to gut an EPA registry of greenhouse-gas polluters
  • hired a former Koch Industries lawyer as his chief of staff

A trifecta! Good for you!

Republicans working hard on creating jobs?

Under standard [IRS] audit procedure, a woman would have to provide evidence to corroborate facts about abortions, rapes, and cases of incest

Nope. How about now?

The House GOP’s 2011 budget would chop $156 million from the Centers for Disease Control’s funding for immunization and respiratory diseases.

I don’t think so. Now?

The House Agriculture Committee endorsed a letter arguing that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps low-income Americans purchase food, would make a better target for cuts than automatic subsidies to farms.

Not at all. The rich get richer and the poor die. GOP 2012!
